Overview
This course transitions probationary deputies from controlled practical drills to supervised field application. Training emphasizes safe operations, sound judgment, and strict adherence to department policy, culminating in an FTO-supervised ride-along evaluation.
Practical Training (Controlled Environments)
-
EVOC & Tactics: Emergency Vehicle Operations Course driving, defensive tactics, de-escalation, arrest procedures, and scenario-based roleplay.
-
Medical Competency: Proficiency in CPR, bleeding control, and other basic lifesaving measures is required.
-
Coaching & Correction: Trainers closely monitor performance, deliver prompt, constructive feedback, and correct errors immediately to prevent bad habits.
Field Phase (Ride-Alongs)
-
Structure: Probationary deputies operate under direct FTO supervision to apply classroom and practical skills in real patrol scenarios.
-
Duration: Each ride-along lasts no less than 25 minutes; FTOs may extend sessions as needed for exposure and evaluation.
-
Evaluation Focus: Technical skills (radio usage, report writing), judgment, officer presence, decision-making, and policy adherence.
